Thelma Cantor, a resident of Woodway, Va. was born in Harlan Co., Kentucky on Tuesday, March 4, 1924 and went home to be with the lord on Friday, January 21, 2011 at her home at the age of 86.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 70 years, Harry Cantor, son, Charles Cantor, daughter, Pricilla Williams, grandsons, Adam and Mark Cantor, 4 brothers, Bob, Billy, Roy and John McKinney, Sisters, Oma, Hettie, Alice, Nina and Grace. She was a homemaker, had lived most of her life in Lee Co. and was a member of the Woodway Church of God. Thelma is survived by 3 sons, Johnny Cantor and family of Blackwater, Virginia, Denver Robin Cantor and family of Adger, Alabama, Eddie Cantor and family of Jonesville, Va., 4 daughters, Brenda Shupe of Kingsport, Tn., Gail Bishop of Pennington Gap, Va.,Linda Fausnight of Dot, Va., Judy Bishop of Woodway, Va.

Thelma is also survived by 23 grandchildren, 38 great-grandchildren, 19 great-great-grandchildren and 1 brother and 5 sisters. The funeral will be held at 8:00 PM Sunday in the Sanctuary of the Province Funeral Home in Pennington Gap, Va. with David Jones and Wayne Scott officiating.

Grandsons will serve as pall bearers Visitation will be from 6:00 PM Sunday until time of the service.

The graveside service will be held at 2:00 PM Monday at the Odd Fellows cemetery in Woodway, Va. Family and friends are asked to meet at the funeral home at 1:00 PM to go to the cemetery.

Landon Trace Orr, infant son of Brandon and Tina Orr of Jonesville, Virginia, passed away Sunday (January 23, 2011) at the Indian Path Medical Center in Kingsport, Tennessee.

In addition to his parents, he is survived by:

Two brothers: Lucas Chase Orr of Jonesville, Virginia and Trevor Ace Orr of Jonesville, Virginia

Maternal grandparents: Lisa Shell and the late Chuck Freeman and Brian and Kelly Carter, all of Jonesville, Virginia

Paternal grandparents: Paul and Loretta Orr of Jonesville, Virginia

Great grandparents: Dorothy and Russell Carter of Woodway, Virginia; Hazel Parks of Jonesville, Virginia; and Boyd Parks, Sr. of Kearnysville, West Virginia

Robert Frank Davidson, Jr.
(March 4, 1940 - January 24, 2011)

Robert Frank Davidson, Jr., 70, of Jonesville, Virginia, passed away Monday (January 24, 2011) at his residence.

He was born in Jonesville, Virginia on March 4, 1940 and was a lifelong resident of Lee County, Virginia.

He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Jonesville, Virginia and retired from the Virginia Department of Transportation after 37 years in 2000. He was an avid farmer and loved being a grandfather.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, Dee Dee Davidson in 1995; father, R.F. Davidson, Sr.; mother, Minnie Davidson Barba; and a special lifelong friend and second mother, Glanita James.

Surviving are:

His wife of 50 years: Judy Graham Davidson of Jonesville, Virginia

A daughter: Debra Ann and husband, Roger Pachalewski of Jonesville, Virginia

A grandson: Caleb Davidson Pachalewski

Two brothers-in-law: Estil Graham and wife, Betty of Christiansburg, Virginia and Vincent Graham and wife, Fay of Portsmouth, Virginia

The family will receive friends from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Thursday at the Arney-Mullins Funeral Home in Jonesville, Virginia.

Funeral services will be conducted at 7:00 p.m. Thursday in the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Garland James and the Rev. Layne Pennington officiating.

Graveside services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Friday in the Town Cemetery in Jonesville, Virginia. Family and friends are asked to meet at the cemetery at 10:45 a.m.

Tom Russell of the Ely Town Community in Dryden, Va. was born Monday, February 22, 1943 in Lee County, Va. and passed away Tuesday, January 25, 2011 at the Holston Valley Medical Center in Kingsport, TN at the age of 67 years.

Tom was a retired diesel mechanic and of the Church of God belief.He was preceded in death by his parents, Dewey and Estelle Russell, two brothers, Alford Russell and Truman Don Russell and one sister, Lydia Jane Hodges Tom is survived by his wife, Nellie Russell of Woodway, Va., two sons, William (Will) Russell and wife, Wendy of Jonesville, Va. and Tommy James (Little Tom) Russell of Woodway, Va., one grandson, Tommy James Russell II, two brothers, Lewis Russell of Jonesville, Va. and Charlie Russell and wife, Donna of Woodway, Va., five sisters, Monnie Fraley and husband, Bob of White Pines, TN, Barbara Quigley and husband, John of Dryden, Va., Rosalee Tritt and husband, Gail of Seminary, Va., Louise Russell and husband, Keith of Jonesville, Va. and Margaret Gibson and husband, Pat of Jonesville, Va. and several nieces and nephews.

Thomas E. Buddy Parker of Duffield, Va. was born in the Rawhide Community of Keokee, Va. on Tuesday, January 30, 1938 and passed away Sunday, January 30, 2011 at the Lonesome Pine Hospital in Big Stone Gap, Va. at the age of 73 years. He had lived in Ohio most of his life and the past three years in Lee County, Va. He retired as a truck driver and was a member of the Teamsters Union Local 957 Dayton, OH and a member of the Masons. He was preceded in death by his parents, Oscar and Mary Parker, sisters, Etta Goins, Hassie Miser, Irene Morris and brothers, Haskell Hack Harris and Oscar Parker, Jr. He is survived by three sons, Barry Parker of Jonesville, Va., Rick Parker and wife, Kelly of South Vienna, OH and Randy Parker and wife, Shelley of Bellbrook, OH, grandchildren, Sarah, Melissa and Cody Parker and Kylee and Kayla Parker, one great-grandchild, Braylon Parker and several nieces and nephews.

The funeral service will be at 7:00 PM Wednesday, February 2, 2011 at the Province Funeral Home Sanctuary in Pennington Gap, Va. with Rev. Don Jones officiating.

Gary Lynn Chambers
(May 15, 1947 - January 30, 2011)

Jonesville, Virginia

Gary Lynn Chambers, 63, of Jonesville, Virginia, attended morning worship service and was unexpectedly called home to His Savior Sunday (January 30, 2011) at his home.

He was born in Tazewell, Tennessee. He was a lifelong resident of Lee County and was a member/trustee of Friendship Baptist Church. He was instrumental in restoring the Old Friendship Baptist Church, having served as Trustee of the Historical Society and in caring for the Ewing-Chambers cemetery.

He served in the National Guard for many years in love and service to his country. He worked for the Lee County Public School system until his retirement. His passion was the land he farmed and University of Tennessee sports. Gary never met a stranger, and his zest for life touched many people, exemplified by his many years of coaching and service with Lee County sports teams. His love for animals, especially his dog, was only overridden by his love for his family.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Willard and Johnnie Chambers.

Left to cherish his memory are his loving wife/soul mate of 44 years, Marsha Lambert Chambers and his cherished son, Justin Lynn Chambers.

He also leaves three cherished sisters and their spouses, Mr. and Mrs. Harold (Judith) Trapp, of Oak Ridge, Tennessee, Mrs. Sylvia Pouncy of Bessemer, Alabama, Mr. and Mrs. Paul (Sharon) Burton of Hampton, Virginia

He is also survived by loving brothers-in-law and their spouses, Greg and Anna Lambert and Barry and Jolene Lambert

Brother-in-law, Rocky Lambert

He leaves behind many nieces, nephews, and cousins, along with many special friends who will never forget him.

He was loved and will be missed by many in this community especially his morning coffee group.

Visitation will be 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Thursday at Friendship Baptist Church in Jonesville, Virginia.

Funeral service will follow 8:00 p.m. with the Rev. Fred Cagle officiating.

He will be laid to rest on his beloved farm at 11:00 a.m. Friday in the Ewing-Chambers Cemetery in Jonesville, Virginia with VFW Post of Big Stone Gap and the Virginia National Guard Honor Team in charge of the graveside service. Those wishing to attend are asked to meet at the cemetery prior to service.

Karen Elizabeth Thomas of the Robbins Chapel Community in Keokee, Va. was born in the Wagoner Town Community of St. Charles, Va. on Saturday, March 17, 1951 and passed away Sunday, January 30, 2011 at the Lee Regional Medical Center in Pennington Gap, Va. at the age of 59 years.

Karen had lived in Lee County, Va. her entire life. She was a homemaker and a member of the Robbins Chapel United Methodist Church. She was preceded in death by her parents, Howard and Ruth Oliver Gibson, grandparents, Cort and Laura Gibson, John and Carrie Bailey Oliver and two half-brothers, Vertis Gibson and Donald Gibson.

Karen is survived by her husband, Johnny Thomas of the home, one son, John Matthew Thomas of Richmond, Ky., two daughters, Tiffany Thomas Hernandez and husband, Richard of Richmond, Ky. and Misty Thomas Howell of Robbins Chapel and four grandchildren, Connor Hernandez, Aidan Hernandez, Isabella Hernandez and Grant Thomas Howell. She is also survived by three sisters, Beurita Richmond and husband, Sam of Lawrenceville, Ga., Juanita Holman of Utah and Cecelia Haynes and husband, Bobby of Woodway, Va.

The funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM Friday, February 4, 2011 at the Robbins Chapel United Methodist Church with Rev. Gary Perdue and Rev. Roy Corbin officiating.

Buford Eldridge
(May 27, 1943 - February 2, 2011)

Buford Eldridge, 67, of Jonesborough, Tennessee, passed away Wednesday (February 2, 2011) at the Johnson City Medical Center in Johnson City, Tennessee.

Born on May 27, 1943 in Occonita, Virginia, Buford accepted Jesus as his Saviour many years ago.

He was a retired Medical Technician from the Mountain Home VA Medical Center.

He was an avid hiker and loved the Appalachian Trail.

Buford was preceded in death by his parents, Cam and Florence Eldridge; one sister, Ruth Cooper; three brothers-in-law, Bobby Cooper, Jack Gollahon; and Jim Hensley; and one great niece.

Buford is survived by:

Dryden, VA- Helen Davis Adams "Her Children will rise up and call her blessed", Proverbs 31:28 Helen Davis Adams, age 80 journeyed to her eternal home on Tuesday, February 2, 2011 at the Johnson City Medical Center, Johnson City, TN

She was a devoted Christian and a member of Dryden United Methodist Church. She has resided in Lee Health and Rehab Center in Pennington Gap, VA where she was tenderly cared for since 2002.

She was preceded in death by her father, The Rev. E.R. Davis, mother, Marguerite Davis, step-mothers, Mildred Parsons Davis and Edith Poteet Davis, and several infant brothers and sisters.

Survivors include her devoted husband of 62 years, C.W. and daughters and spouses. Darlene and Jerry Light and Sissy and Gary Onks both of Johnson City, TN. Grandsons, Todd Light, Matthew Light and spouse Amanda, Adam Ely and granddaughter, Meredith Stewart and spouse Shawn, great grandchildren, Brooke, Olivia, and Addison Light, Her brother and spouse, Harold S. and Mary Ellen Davis of Albany, GA. Other survivors include, sister in-laws ,Lena Rue Pellman, Cleveland, OH, Sallie Ann and spouse Bill Johnson, Arnold, MD, brother in-law and spouse John J. and Regina Adams, Gloucester Point, VA, Several nieces and nephews whom she loved dearly.

Mossie Fee
(July 13, 1927 - February 2, 2011)

Mossie Fee, 83 was born July 13, 1927 in LaFollette, TN and entered the gates of Heaven on February 2, 2010 with her family at her side at Bristol Regional Medical Center.

She lived in Rose Hill, Virginia for most of her life. She will be remembered as a Godly woman, a devoted mother, loving grandmother and great grandmother, who captured everyone with her kind face and wonderful smile like no other. When she smiled you could see it all over her face! You could always find hope and courage in her eyes. She has a special place in heaven.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Claude Fee; parents, Paris and Easter Brooks; sisters, Emma Dawson, Mary Lee and Abby Ayers; and daughter-in-law, Cindy Fee.

Surviving are:

Alois Poteet Tomlinson was born in Jonesville, Va. on Tuesday, July 15, 1917 and passed away Wednesday, February 2, 2011 at the Lee Regional Medical Center in Pennington Gap, Va. at the age of 93 years. She had lived in Baltimore, Md. for a few years but lived most of her life in Lee County, Va.

Alois was a homemaker and of the Baptist faith. She was preceded in death by her husband, Claude Tomlinson, two sons, Bennie S. and James G. Tomlinson and three brothers, Lester, George and Samuel Poteet.

Alois is survived by two daughters, Sharyn Bailey and husband, Tom of Jonesville, Va. and Denise Parks and husband, Don of Colonial Heights, Va., six grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild and one brother Ronnie Poteet and wife, Wilma of Jonesville, Va.

The funeral service will be held at 7:00 PM Sunday, February 6, 2011 at the Province Funeral Home Sanctuary in Pennington Gap, Va. with Paul Davis, Jr. officiating.

Walter Carson Hensley

Walter Carson Hensley, 66, of Rose Hill, Virginia, died Wednesday (February 9, 2011) at home with family.

Born August 29, 1944, he was a son of the late McKinley and Cora (Ely) Hensley.

He retired from General Motors after 31½ years of service. He was a member of the Free and Accepted Masons of Michigan. He believed in the Baptist faith.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by an infant sister, Georgia Hensley.

Elder Earnest Willard Bledsoe Sr. of St. Charles, VA., age 63, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Friday, February 11, 2011 after a brief illness with cancer. He was born in Lee County, VA. on August 21, 1947 where he was a lifelong resident.

Earnest was Pastor of Blue Springs Primitive Baptist Church in Wallens Creek and was a moderator pro-tem at Fairview Primitive Baptist Church in St. Charles. He served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War and retired from the Virginia National Guard. He was a member of the Odd Fellows, Pennington Gap Lodge #155. He was retired from Norfolk Southern Railroad. He was preceded in death by his parents, Jim and Pearl Bledsoe; one sister, Colene Byington; and two brothers, Jack and Cecil Bledsoe. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Tuesday, February 15, from the Sanctuary of Province Funeral Home in Pennington Gap with Elder Richard Seiber and Elder Oscar Irvin officiating.

Burial will follow at the Odd Fellows Cemetery in Woodway with graveside Military Rites conducted by the Virginia National Guard.

Bruce Wayne Hilton, age 53, of Dryden, VA. was born in Pennington Gap, VA. on Tuesday, January 28, 1958 and passed away Sunday, February 13, 2011 at his home. He worked many years in contractor sales and was employed by Myers Lumber and Supply in Pennington Gap.

Bruce is preceded in death by his father, Jack Hilton. He is survived by his mother, Betty Hilton of Pennington Gap; fiancé, Valerie Reeves of the home; two sisters, Judy Shelburne and husband, Joe of the Dot Community and Christy Carter of Scottsville, VA.; four uncles, Frank Hilton and wife, Dorothy of Pennington Gap, Carl Hilton and wife, Betty of IN., Harold Garrett and wife, Betty of OH. and Wayne Garrett of OH.; one aunt, Christine DeBord of Churchill, TN.; one niece and several nephews and a host of other relatives and friends.

Curtis Carroll Willis
(May 25, 1925 - February 15, 2011

Today we mourn the passing of our beloved Curtis Carroll Willis, age 85, of Jonesville, Virginia, who passed away peacefully Tuesday (February 15, 2011) at the Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center in Kingsport, Tennessee following a brief illness. His best friend and wife of 61 years, Virginia Hicks Willis, was at his side when he left this world.

Curtis was born May 29, 1925 and was one of eight children born to Dan and Lilly Willis. He was raised in the Flatwoods area of Lee County, Virginia. He was married to Virginia Hicks Willis on April 7, 1949. He proudly served his country in the 24th Infantry Division of the Army and was a decorated World War II combat Veteran. He was awarded the Combat Infantryman Badge and the Bronze Star, among other decorations. He participated in assault invasions in Leyte, Mindanao, and Mindoro in the Pacific Theatre. He worked for Lance, Inc. and retired from there in 1986 after 33 years of service. He was a 62 year member of the Preston Masonic Lodge and was currently serving his third term on the Jonesville Town Council. He was a member of the Friendship Baptist Church. Curt loved being at the lake, especially the weekends spent there watching his grandchildren grow up. He loved spending time with his family, gardening, playing rook, and volunteering time working in the food pantry at his church.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Lilly and Dan Willis; and siblings, Cecil Smith, Oneida Sergent, Beryl Willis, T.J. Willis, Kyle Willis, and Jimmy Willis.

He had countless other family and friends who were blessed to know him.

Curt touched the lives of many people with his smile and generosity and his sense of humor. He will be sadly missed but we have comfort that he has entered into eternal life in Heaven.

Pallbearers will be Larry Curtis Huff, Travis Willis, Tim Huff, Wally Elliott, Brandon Calton, Mason Sexton, and Blake Willis.

Honorary pallbearers will be his special lake buddy Ed Morrison and Ted Lundy, Beryl Greer, and J.P. Kirk.

She was a member of Butcher’s Gap Missionary Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her father and mother, Everette and Bessie Mae Sloan Noe; her husband, Joe Satterfield; two sons, Oliver and Ken Cross; two grandsons, Glen and Ray Satterfield; one granddaughter, Ruby Nicole Collins; two great grandsons, Jonathan Hensley and Dakota Hensley; one brother, Bill Noe; two sisters, Reba Jones and Juanita Thompson; one niece, Linda Rains; and one son-in-law, Henry Johnson.

Ida Hensley age 65 of Dryden, Va. was born in Johnson City, TN on Friday, March 30, 1945 and passed away Thursday, February 17, 2011 at her home. She had lived in Wise County for several years and Lee County the past 24 years.

Ida was a homemaker and of the Pentecostal belief. She was preceded in death by her husband, Leroy Hensley, one son, Terry Hensley, parents, Howard and Stella Price Goodman and one brother, Wilburn Goodman.

Ida is survived by six daughters, Janie Sanders and husband, Billy of Wise, Va., Kim Hensley of Dryden, Va., Trisha Hensley of Dryden, Va., Pam Mefford and husband, Allen of Norton, Va., Tanya Anders and friend, Paul of Jonesville, Va. and Joanie Tritt and friend, Keith of Pennington Gap, Va., thirteen grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and one brother and seven sisters.

Marie Hurd, of Greewood, IN, at the Golden Age of 92, passed peacefully into the presence of The Lord, February 17, 2011.

Mom was born in Woodpeck, WV on December 14, 1918 to the late Alfred and Mary Massey. She married Clyde Clarence Hurd of Maple Fork, WV on July 27, 1936 at Mt. Hope, WV.

Mom was a mother of nine children who she deeply loved; Shelby who is deceased, Larry, Barbara, Carolyn, Chuck deceased, Jerry, Peggy, Molly, and Connie. 21 grandchildren, and 32 great grandchildren. Above all Mom's true happiness was raising her children and caring for the family. Mom loved the Lord and was pleased to know each child came to know the Lord as Saviour. She had two brothers, Charlie,Alfred Jr., four sisters, Edna, Minnie, Mary and June, Five half brothers,Jim, Shug, Ted, Frank and Dennis Fox.One half sister, Virginia Voss who are all deceased.

Mom's body will be laid to rest next to dad's body at Lee Memorial Gardens in Woodway, VA. at 4 p. m. Monday, February 21, 2011.

The family will gather between 3 and 4 p. m. at the cemetery. There will be no formal visitation. Thank God For That Blessed Hope.

Evelyn Napier Chandler, 82, of Winchester, Virgina, where she passed away Friday, February 18, 2011.

Mrs. Chandler was born in 1928, in Lee County, Virginia, the daughter of the later Andrew and Elizabeth Napier. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, homemaker and of the Baptist Faith.

Mrs. Chandler was an avid gardener and collector of the fine antiques. She loved spending time with those she loved, including the family dog, Gretel. She married Curtis Edmond “Ed” Chandler on June 9, 1954. Surviving with her husband is her son, David Chandler and his wife, Christy, and her granddaughter, Beth Chandler all of Winchester, Virginia. She is also survived by a host of nieces and nephews. Three sisters, Maxie Evans, Zessie Stapelton, Nettie Kirk, and five brothers, Woodrow, Tunis, Hubert, Lawrence and Clarence Napier, preceded her in death.

The funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 AM Wednesday at the Province Funeral Home Sanctuary in Pennington Gap, Va. with Rev. Josh Osteen officiating.

Judge William Charles Fugate
(September 3, 1931 - February 25, 2011)

Honorable Judge William Charles Fugate, age 79, passed away Friday (February 25, 2011) at his home in Jonesville, Virginia. He was a lifelong resident of Lee County, Virginia. He was born September 3, 1931 to Ray P. and Bess Parkey Fugate in Gibson Station, Virginia.

Judge Fugate was a graduate of Thomas Walker High School in 1946; graduate of Lincoln Memorial University in 1953; and a graduate of the T.C. Williams School of Law of Richmond in 1957 in the top 10% of his class with honors.

Judge Fugate loved to fly in his college years. He obtained his pilot’s license after graduating LMU by working at the Middlesboro Airport. He traded his love for flying for weekends at the lake with his family and friends after he married and started his family. He enjoyed golf and was an avid reader.

He began his career in Jonesville, Virginia, opening a private law office in 1957. He served in the House of Delegates in 1958 and 1959. He was elected Commonwealth’s Attorney and took office on January 1, 1960. He resigned his office after three years to become District Court Judge in April of 1963.

William served his community in many ways throughout his life. He served on the Judicial Council for 16 years and was chosen by Chief Justice Carrico to represent the council statewide and abroad, he spent three weeks in Italy representing Virginia. He served five years on the committee of District Courts. He retired at the age of 66 due to physical health problems. After several back surgeries, Chief Justice Carrico asked him to resume the bench on the recall list. He worked an additional three years, hearing cases west of Roanoke.

Judge Fugate served his community in many different areas. He was first chairman of the Lee County Airport in Pennington Gap, Virginia. He served on the MECC board as chairman, turning the first shovel of dirt in it’s construction in 1972. He served on the state board of colleges for many years and was awarded the first Honorary Degree at MECC. He served on the board for the Appalachia School of Law, in Grundy, Virginia. He and his wife served on the board of directors at The Peoples Bank of Ewing for many years. He was presented an award inducting him into the Professional Hall of Fame in October 2007 at LMU. He was presented with many resolutions and awards in Lee, Scott, and Wise Counties too numerous to mention.

Judge Fugate was preceded in death by his parents, Ray P. and Bess Parkey Fugate; two uncles, Nathaniel G. Fugate of Middlesboro, Kentucky and Ikey Parkey of Ewing, Virginia.

His loving wife of 53 years: Jean Burton Fugate of Jonesville, Virginia

Two daughters: Elisabeth Ann Fugate of Johnson City, Tennessee and Alice Fugate Legard and husband, Tony of Bristol, Virginia

One son: Charlie Fugate and wife, Lisa of Abingdon, Virginia

He also leaves five grandchildren: Jacqueline Rae Legard, Julia Elizabeth Legard, William C. Fugate, II, Nathaniel G. Fugate, and Nicholas B. Fugate.
Three cousins: Robert J. “Bob” Parkey, Sue Rosenbalm, and Doris Stiles
The family would like to express their sincere appreciation to a wonderful “team” of caregivers: Belinda Scott, Rosemary Scott, Deb Barber, Chasity Barber, Clara Sumpter, Tammy Miller, Lee Tan, Independent Home Health, and Mountain Region Home Health.

The family will receive friends from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. Sunday at the First United Methodist Church in Jonesville, Virginia.

Funeral services will be conducted at 4:00 p.m. Sunday at the church with the Rev. Layne Pennington officiating.

A private burial will follow.

Pallbearers will be friends from the Lee County Bar Association. Honorary pallbearers will be Sonny Martin, Sammie Horton, Beverly Anderson, Sheriff Gary Parsons, Judge Tammy McElyea, Belinda Scott, and Retired State and Federal Judges of the 30th Circuit Courts of Lee County and the Constitutional Officers of Lee County.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Jonesville First United Methodist Church, of which he attended his adult life.

Bill Snavely
(July 18, 1933 - February 27, 2011)

Pennington Gap, VA William (Bill) Snavely, Sr. age 77 of the Cane Creek Community passed away Sunday morning at Wellmont Holston Valley in Kingsport, TN. He was born in Pennington Gap, the son of the late Rader Steele and Cora Cress Snavely. He was a lifetime member of the Pennington Gap Volunteer Fire Department and retired from Powell Mountain Coal Company. He was a veteran of the U. S. Army and a member of the First United Methodist Church of Pennington Gap. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and a great family man and neighbor. He was preceded in death by one daughter, Teresa Snavely.

Survivors include his wife, Booty Cooper Snavely of Pennington Gap, VA. One daughter, Lisa Ann Bratton of Duffield VA. Two sons, Billy Snavely and wife, Teresa, of Princeton, WV, Paul Morton and wife, Heather of Nicholasville, KY. Nine grandchildren, two great grandchildren and one sister, Evelyn Snavely of Pennington Gap, VA.

Family will recieve friends on Tuesday, March 1, from 6 until 8:00 p. m. in Sturgill Funeral Home with funeral services following with Rev. Nancy Hobbs officiating.

Military graveside services will be held at 11:00 a. m. Wednesday at the Kelly Cemetery in Cane Creek.

Family and friends are asked to meet at the funeral home by 10:30 on Wednesday to go to the cemetery.

In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to The Pennington Gap Volunteer Fire Department or to The Resident's Fund at Lee Nursing and Rehab in Pennington Gap.

Harold Fritts, Sr.
(August 26, 1923 - February 27, 2011)

Morristown, TN/Pennington Gap, VA

Harold Eugene Fritts, Sr, of Morristown, TN was born August 26, 1923 in St. Charles, VA and passed away February 27, 2011 at Lee Regional Medical Center. He was a retired Staff Sargeant, in the U.S. Army serving from 1942 until 1956. He was of the Baptist Faith and was a caring brother and friend. He loved his animals, flowers and garden. In Morristown he was affectingly known as Cucumber Fritts. He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles Fritts, Sr. and Fannie Fritts Driskill. Two sisters; Ilo Fritts Lawson, and Carolyn Kay Fritts. Four brothers, Charles Fritts, Jr, Jimmy Fritts, Herbert Fritts and Larry Fritts.

Survivors are one daughter, Christine Britt, and two sons, Harold Fritts, Jr, and Craig Fritts all of Florida. One sister, Carol Hope Wright of Woodway, VA and five nieces and seven nephews. Elaine Woliver and husband Scott, their sons, Johnny Woliver and Jessica Hawley, Scotty Woliver and wife, Kailey and Robbie Wright and wife, Lisa, and their daughter, Lynn Wright all of Woodway.

Calling hours will 6 until 8:00 p. m. on March 2, 2011 at Sturgill Funeral Home in Pennington Gap, VA with services following with Rev. Rusty Fitzpatrick officiating.

Graveside services will be held at 11:00 a. m. at the Odd Fellows Cemetery.

George Luis Harris
(November 7, 1985 - February 26, 2011)

George Luis Harris, age 25, of Jonesville, Virginia, died Saturday (February 26, 2011) in New Orleans, Louisiana.

George was born in Belmopan, Belize on November 7, 1985 and was adopted when he was six years old. George was saved as a young boy and is now in heaven. He was a 2005 graduate of Lee High School.

He was preceded in death by his birth father, Cesar Lemus.

He is survived by:

His brother: David A. Harris and wife, Revonda, niece Lilly of Kingsport, Tennessee

Dryden, VA

Rial Fulton Lawson, age 100 passed away on Tuesday, March 1, 2011 at Lee Regional Medical Center in Pennington Gap. He was a lifelong resident of Lee County the son of the late Dave and Fannie Bailey Lawson. He was a retired coal miner for over 40 years, member of the UMWA, Local 1405. He was the oldest member of Olinger Missionary Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his wife, Edith Jeanette Lawson, his son, Carl G. Lawson, daughter, Anna Mae Waddell, grandson, Jerry Lawson, sister, Marie E. Wardrup, brothers, John B. Lawson, Will Pat Lawson, Claude Clay Lawson, Wilmer W. Lawson, Willard Lawson, and Emory Lawson.

Rial is survived by his children; Charles Kyle (Betty) Lawson, Bobby Joe (Glenda) Lawson, Bruce Wayne (Virginia) Lawson, Margaret M. (Danny) Olinger, Reba J. (Auburn) Olinger all of Dryden, VA. Roy Lee Lawson of Big Stone Gap, James E. (Lorrie) Lawson, Ft. Wayne, IN, Shirley F. (Bill) Howard of Pennington Gap, VA. 19 grandchildren, 4 step grandchildren, many great, great great granchildren,4 nieces and 2 nephews.

Family will receive friends Thursday evening March 3, 2011 at Sturgill Funeral Home in Pennington Gap from 6 until 8:00 p. m.

Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 p. m. on Friday in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Tommy Ely and Rev. Bruce Brewer officiating. Special music will be provided by the Olinger Missionary Baptist Church.

Interment will follow in the Powell Valley Cemetery in Dryden, VA. Pallbearers will be chosen from his grandchildren.
